The Seasons That Shape Us

The Seasons That Shape Us

When One Season Ends, Another Begins

If there's one thing ranching teaches you, it's that the work never really stops.

One season simply leads into the next.

This past week has been a perfect example.

Just days ago, our family was at the Southwest Junior Livestock Show, watching months of hard work come together in the show ring. Like so many stock show families, we celebrated accomplishments, shared a few tears as the market steers were sold, and reflected on the lessons our kids learned along the way.

Before we had much time to slow down, it was time to get back to the ranch.

Yesterday, we finished weaning this year's calves.

Today, the corn chopper is rolling through the fields as we begin harvesting corn for silage—feed that will help nourish our cattle through the winter months ahead.

The days are long.

The hours are even longer.

And this week is only just beginning.

The Rhythm of a Ranch

People often ask what it's like to live on a family ranch.

The truth is, there isn't much "ordinary."

One day you're standing ringside cheering on your kids.

The next, you're horseback working cattle or helping sort calves.

Then you're in the tractor, chopping corn until the daylight fades.

Around here, our calendar isn't measured by months.

It's measured by seasons.

Calving season.

Hay season.

Show season.

Weaning season.

Silage season.

Each one brings new challenges, new opportunities, and another reminder that there's always work to be done.

A Family Effort

One of the things we're most grateful for is that no one carries the workload alone.

Rodney and LueAnn are still at the heart of Original Carter Cattle.

Whether it's working cattle, making decisions, helping with the harvest, or encouraging the next generation in the show barn, they're involved every single day. Their leadership, experience, and steady example continue to guide our family and the ranch they've spent a lifetime helping build.

Alongside them, the sixth generation is learning what it means to work hard, care for livestock, and understand that every season has a purpose.

Those lessons aren't taught during one conversation.

They're learned by spending time together.

By working side by side.

By watching.

By doing.

That's how a legacy continues.

Why We Do It

There are days when we're tired.

Days when the weather doesn't cooperate.

Days when the work seems endless.

But then there are moments that remind us why we love this life.

Watching healthy calves grow.

Seeing another successful hay season come to an end.

Hearing the corn chopper in the field, knowing we're preparing for winter.

Watching our children develop confidence, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.

Sharing another meal together after a long day on the ranch.

Those are the moments that make every early morning and every late night worthwhile.

The Story Behind the Beef

When you purchase beef from Original Carter Cattle, you're supporting more than a family-owned Utah ranch.

You're supporting a family that works together through every season.

You're supporting generations of knowledge passed from grandparents to parents to children.

You're supporting long days, changing seasons, and the commitment to raising quality beef the right way.

Every package of beef tells a story.

Not just of where it came from.

But of the family still working every day to produce it.

And as one season comes to an end and another begins, we're reminded that the greatest part of ranching isn't simply the work.

It's the people you get to do it with.

Thank you for following our journey and allowing our family to be a small part of yours.
