About Original Carter Cattle

Carter Cattle’s story is rooted in generations of dedicated cattlemen, spanning both the Carter and Yardley families. It all began in 1955 with Grandpa Carter, who started with just five bottle-fed Holstein calves. From these humble beginnings, he built a solid foundation, eventually purchasing 20 heifers to establish his herd. After years of running a dairy in Washington state, he returned to Minersville, Utah, and transitioned to beef cattle, sourcing superior bulls from Gib Yardley in Beaver, Utah, to improve his herd's genetics.

Grandpa Yardley was a cornerstone of the Beaver County cattle community, part of a family that helped establish the region’s cattle industry. He worked alongside his father and brothers, building a reputation for integrity and expertise. Even while serving in the Marines, he sent his earnings home to buy land for the family. This strong connection to the land and cattle is a shared legacy, as both Rodney and LueAnn come from long lines of passionate cattlemen.

Rodney grew up learning from Grandpa Carter, and at 17, he bought his first cows with a loan. He worked alongside his father until 2008, when Carter Cattle was officially founded.

Carter Legacy

Today, Carter Cattle has grown into a thriving family business far beyond the founders' original vision. Rodney, his wife LueAnn, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, now in the sixth generation, continue to drive the operation. Rodney values working with his family, honoring the legacy of both Grandpa Carter and the Yardley family. He’s proud of the tight-knit community they’ve built and is committed to producing the highest-quality cattle while giving back to those in need. Carter Cattle stands as a testament to family, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, built on the strong foundations laid by generations of dedicated cattlemen.
